Dental imaging historically has consisted of two areas: Radiography and Photography.
Today imaging also consists of image scanning to replace physical impressions (technically a subset of photography/videography).
This course will cover the first two areas.
Photography is an asset that is often overlooked in the dental practice. With today's greater patient expectations, competition, EHR, and continued progress of clinical imaging, photography is needed now more than ever for continued success and growth.
Proper use of photography takes your practice to a higher level of excellence in many ways. You may not realize what you're lacking until you begin to implement photography in your practice. This course will help you take your practice to a higher level!
Photography is necessary for documentation, before and after photos, insurance submissions, cosmetic dentistry, soft tissue pathology, orthodontics and restorative dentistry, patient progress, improving your technique, and preventing complications. Outside of the operatory, photos are necessary for internal and external marketing, teaching, and even for updating your resume/CV.
Both doctors and staff (hygienists, clinical assistants, and administrative staff) should be well trained in the needs, uses, and techniques to use photography most effectively.
You will learn:
- Why It is essential to use photography in your practice
- How to use photography for
- treatment planning and consultation
- internal and external marketing
- cosmetic simulation imaging
- How photography will expand your practice
- Types of cameras and when to use each
- (DSLRs, point and shoots, intraoral, and video)
- Methodology for taking both extraoral and intraoral photos
- Photography resources
- Proper photo storage and categorization
- Patient questions
- Patient consent forms
Radiography has advanced with the ever- improving advent of digital sensors and software as well as with three dimensional techniques (CBCT). However, the basic skill of taking excellent radiographs, especially in difficult situations, is an art that requires updating and honing both old and new techniques.
Has it been a while since you’ve taken dental radiographs? Is your technique a bit “rusty”? Are you unfamiliar with working with sensors and digital radiographs?
Radiology will cover:
- Dental radiation safety review – safe operator practices and factors that contribute to radiation safety
- Intraoral radiography – principles of the paralleling bisecting and bitewing technique; advantages and disadvantages; common errors – how to avoid and correct the; patients with special needs
- Radiograph viewing and image interpretation - descriptive terminology, review of caries interpretation, periodontal disease, pathology, periapical disease, foreign objects, dental materials and artifacts
- Film vs. digital - How to adapt; pros and cons; infection control
