Upon completion of this course, participants will be familiar with the use of lasers for specific procedures found in pediatric and orthodontic dental practice. They will be able to incorporate this knowledge into a basis for determining which laser wavelength is most appropriate for their practice and be able to incorporate laser dentistry procedures into their practices first thing tomorrow morning.
About the Certification
Candidates who successfully complete the course will receive a Continuing Education Certificate from both NJHPDI and Dr. Robert Convissar in Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry recognized by the American Board of Laser Surgery (ABLS), the world's only laser medical specialty board. This course is the first and only US-based training course that offers a Certificate of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry under the ABLS banner.
Participants will then be prepared to take the written exam, conveniently from your home or office directly through the ABLS's website. This optional test is only for those that wish to complete the exam for certification.

Robert Convissar, DDS
Dr. Convissar is a pioneer in the field of laser dentistry. He has over 30 years of experience with CO2, Nd.YAG, Erbium and Diode wavelengths. The author of 16 papers and 6 textbooks on laser dentistry, he has presented over 300 seminars on 5 continents from London to Florence to Dubai to Tokyo to Sydney and everywhere in between. He practices cosmetic, restorative, and laser dentistry in New York City. His latest textbook, Principles and Practice of Laser Dentistry has been the # 1 selling laser dentistry textbook in the world for 9 years.
About the Speaker
Lou Chmura, DDS
Dr. Chmura completed his D.D.S. in 1985 and his M.S. in Orthodontics in 1987, both from the University of Michigan. He is in private practice in Marshall, Michigan and is an active member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association and the Academy of Laser Dentistry (ALD). Dr. Chmura became a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics in 1983. He participates in three national and international orthodontic study clubs and in over 150 hours of continuing education each year.
Dr. Chmura has been actively involved in using soft tissue lasers since 2005. He earned Standard Proficiency in CO2 and Diode wavelengths by the ALD as well as Associate Fellowship in Er,Cr:YSGG Lasers by the World Clinical Laser Institute.
Dr. Chmura is the first orthodontist to have earned ALD Advanced Proficiency and the first orthodontic Fellow of the ALD. He is the author of “ Soft Tissue Lasers in Orthodontics" (Principles and Practice of Laser Dentistry-Elsevier, 2010) and numerous articles on the various uses of lasers in orthodontic practice.
Dr. Chmura's laser talks not only highlight the basic science behind laser usage, but also covers other aspects of laser usage, including safety considerations, managing workflow, diagnosis and treatment planning, smile design, gingivectomies and frenectomies and when a referral may be more appropriate. Of particular interest is enhancing staff abilities to prepare the patient, parent and laser to allow a seamless integration of the laser into an orthodontic office.
